Multi Snare Drum

This snare drum idea came from seeing some on Facebook. The builder had a different wood in running in the middle of the snare drum height and it was really neat to see. Another drum builder made his cuts so that the grains matched up when he put it together and that was really cool as well.
Recently, there has been some interest in snare drums and I know that I haven’t built one in a while. I was initially thinking of building one instead of the last guitar but I needed hardware to even start the next drum build. The thought of the unreliable cuts from the table saw always makes me think twice about it. That and the fact that the table saw and mitre saw are in the garage.
I tried something new to help with the bevel cuts this time around. It is actually more work but did work out in the end – I sanded the bevel after cutting the bevel on the table saw. There was a secondary angle on most cuts on the table saw for some reason so finishing it off on the belt sander got rid of the second bevel.
The Purple Heart strip in the middle worked out. Not sure if I should have made the Purple Heart a smaller height or bigger height at this point. But I think it worked out in the end.
During the routing process, the thought of making a better jig came up. It is just a matter of figuring out what would work best.
