Purple Heart Snare Drum

I finally managed to get some Purple Heart – the last time I saw some at Windsor Plywood was last November of 2023. I also picked up some Tigerwood to try – which I will try out on the next snare drum build.

With having built a few snare drums now, I am curious on what any new and different tonewoods I try will sound. I do get feedback from drummers on my snare drums and so far, it has been positive.

This Purple Heart build, I was thinking of really heated up the outside to get a nice dark colour to it but I always have err on the side of caution around glue joints. I don’t think the final colour I got out of it is bad but I would have liked to get it deeper than it is.

As for the installation of the hardware, I think I have figured out a procedure that works for what to drill, when to drill and how much depth needed when I use the Forstner bit.
