Snare Drum 002

Started on January 09, 2024: completed on January 26, 2024

Before even the first snare drum was finished, I already had plans to make a few more.

The feedback from the first snare drum was very positive and I even know some things I can try on the second snare drum to improve over the first one.

Unfortunately, there wasn’t any Purple Heart available at Windsor Plywood when I went, so this snare drum will be made from Wenge instead. I could have did another one with Bubinga but I did want to try a different wood. I am wondering if the sound would be different and how much would it really be different.

I had a the collet on the router back out when I was just about to finish the inside route. It went in too deep on a few spots and I had to cut off almost an inch on the one side. I had taken the two rings that I cut off from the Bubinga snare drum and glued them to each end of the snare drum. This will give the snare drum the height back that was cut off.

Because of the deep routes all over, this snare drum won’t be serialized and used as a demo snare drum for those who want to try one out.

The Wenge is so dark that it is hard to see the log stamp on it depending on the lighting.
