Stagg Violin

I picked up this violin secondhand on June 30, 2024. I feel that violins are one of those instruments that students drop quickly. I think this is the case with violins often as it isn’t an easy instrument to learn – the first lessons would be about posture and holding your bow properly. The violin is also a fretless instrument so placing your fingers at the right spot would be another big hurdle to accomplish. I have tried to play the violin a few times and I know it isn’t the easiest thing to be bang on with fretting but if you are just playing for fun then you could let go of how close you are to the notes as long as you make progress through the song you are attempting.

When I manage to get around to taking a better look, I will know more of what it needs. But from the quick lookover I did, there seems to be a crack on the lower part of the top plate. I may purchase a snake camera to be able to inspect it better.

*Update September 06, 2024

I completely forgot about updating this page because I couldn’t really do much with the violin. I did purchase a snake camera but the camera lens part was too big to get into the F hole of the violin. I tried as best as I can to get a small mirror in the violin to check the crack from the inside. From what I saw, it was just on the top side of the violin, possibly checking but I wouldn’t be absolute on that unless I took the top plate right off.
