S/N 006 classical guitar: this guitar will most likely see very little playing time if any.

A combination of Engelmann Spruce and Indian Rosewood were chosen for the body. I was able to decide this for the customer: It is a safe combination to go with. Looking back at it now, I should have went with Sitka Spruce instead of the Engelmann.

The body height on this guitar is to actual specifications on the blue prints and I will say, it is taller than I personally like. I feel the body height on 005 is the most ideal – just a bit shorter than blue print specs.

Rosewood veneer was used for both the head plate and heel cap. After finishing the whole neck with Tru-Oil, I have decided to French Polish the head plate veneer and heel caps on future guitars. I find that the Tru-Oil makes the Indian Rosewood very dark and dry looking and I was concerned that it would have happened to S/N 005 which was done after this neck.

I was initially going to do the binding with Rosewood but that was changed it to Maple just before I went to do the binding on the body. This was that point where I had to order in sides just to cut up for binding strips.

The Wenge strip is a nice accent to the Spanish Cedar: in terms of colour, it does match up with the Rosewood quite well but it would have been nice if the Wenge didn’t turn out so dark from the Tru-Oil though. A piece of Oak veneer is on each side of the Wenge to give it a little more accent between the two woods in there already. I do wish I had some different coloured veneer pieces to use though.

The wood combination is pretty generic in terms of a classical guitar and what I am used to using for material so far. And because of that, I have worked on this guitar first between the two guitars. Think of it as a warm up to the second guitar being built even though they were pretty much made side by side, this guitar was always a step or two ahead of the other one.

I can still see progress in my workmanship but I know there are things I still need to improve on.
