I guess this could be more of a “fun” project to do.

An unknown set of back and sides have been pulled out for this project. From what I researched and found online for images, it looks like Teak but I am not certain it really is. The side panels have what kind of looks like crescent moon patterns going through it. I might cut into those and let it run along both sides. Not saying it is a bad thing but it has made me forget to add material to make an arm bevel on the guitar. I have been told a few times that I need to make a checklist on what to do and I think I am at a point where I really need one. This wouldn’t be the first time that I have forgotten to do something in a build.

I did consider to just bevel the area and add a strip of wood to cover the bevel – pretty the same idea that I did with the last guitar but I did have material underneath for the bevel itself. I gave it more thought and didn’t want it to be a situation where it would have been a whole mess just to do something that should be simple.

When I finally managed to finish the body and started to French polish it, it was time to start thinking of a neck. I actually did want something on that matched the body wood in colour but I don’t have any such wood. I looked at some Black Walnut as that would be the darkest wood I have for necks and then saw the Sapele that I had used for the last guitar build. I felt that the colour contrast might work best with what I am building, especially after putting the first coats of shellac on the body wood.

I brought in and tried some Gluboost Lac R’ Shot to finish this guitar. It goes on really thin and I can’t even tell if anything is on there or not but I can say that is a good thing for the tone of the guitar. It is why I French polish my guitar bodies; it affects the tone minimally.

A new pinless bridge design was tried. I saw some pictures of it on the newest issue of Guild of American Luthiers. I don’t know if there is more to just how the bridge is slotted from the pictures I saw but I do wonder about the long term durability of it.

The guitar didn’t sound as “off” as I thought it might have when I tested it out.
